Excellent idea ! -- may it come to fruition.

Some time ago you were so generous as to suggest I contribute a Target Paper; it would have tried to draw light on what value for ourselves traditional Chinese Philosophy (appropriately reconditioned) may have at this critical time.

I'd like to draw to your attention WU KUANG-MING. He has already written so much to this end that he's hardly one to invite a Target Paper from; but qua responder to questions I think he'd be first rate. You can find him and a whole bunch of highly qualified others in:

DAO: A Journal of Comparative Philosophy [ISSN 1540-3009]. [First issue Winter 2001, now at Volume V, No. 2, Summer 2006.] At the University Library in Cambridge (England) recently I found they have only one issue of this Journal, the seem to not know how they came by it. I'd like to think McGill is better furnished, and more alert to opportunity.

[HFJM :]

If you can somehow make this into a Target Article, please do !

Have no Chinese, hence no standing -- could be plausibly (& legitimately) dismissed with a wave of the hand.

Fact remains we're waiting for cultural tectonic plates to shift; are much less ready than they to make sensible adjustments.

Let's assume they'll make a lot of mistakes as crass as our own before their multi-millennial common-sense kicks in -- but kick in it will, eventually. Crucial at that time will be how ready we'll be, in the West, to meet theirs with our own.

No doubt you & I'l be some years dead by then. Tant pis.

I WILL MAKE A BET WITH YOU

In a year or so

China will be Peck's Good Boy --

'Reason', 'Sanity'.

The world will settle

more or less comfortably

in a new outlook

undistorted by

sophomoric and greedy

"We're Top Dog-ism".

Grabbiness for Pelf

and Power and Perquisites

of Sovreignty

will soon become the

Diplomatic PITS -- as well

the hell they should be.

re. N69 :

Apropos nothing.--

"One might address this

constellation as a TASK,

and ASK by which means

"one can stimulate

discussion on questions of

wider interest."
