Please forgive a bit of ignorant musing, but here it is: Seems to me that anyone who has bought life insurance or written a will believes that mind-independent reality exists, and anyone who has ever declined to drive while intoxicated likewise believes that MIR exists - and that it carries a gun holstered on his hip to boot.

The insurance company and the policeman would probably agree with that. It is practical to think so in many situations (see TA57[8] etc.etc.), and unreflected MIR-belief is indeed strongly recommended for use in states where external support is required, like in advanced inebriation. - HFJM
