( OUT THERE AND CONSTRUCTIONS )

Very nice ..... I agree that those of us who have been reared in a world where TRUE and REAL constantly enter dialogue must carefully avoid any careless sliding into suggesting a MIR. I have tried to avoid the careless slide, but I have felt that it is necessary to avoid saying that we can NEVER find a way of separating our constructions from whatever might be out there. You do provide a logical justification for using the term NEVER.

But, do you think that Trent Lott or Jerry Falwell would buy your argument. I heard Jerry Falwell talk about the possibility that he could disappear as he was speaking to his audience -- taken up in "The Rapture." Suppose that he has an inside track on truth, and that he does go off on The Rapture, to return again after the world is cleared to prepare for The New Jerusalem. Perhaps he will return with a cognitive system that allows him to see TRUE TRUTH. Then, he, like the Christ discussed in Eco's masterpiece THE NAME OF THE ROSE, would never be able to laugh at a joke, because he can immediately know the TRUTH of any incident and could not be led to follow the deception that a good joke sets up.

I like your arguments, but I still would cautiously say "at this time we cannot separate whatever is assumed to be out there from our constructions."

As for the explanation of my use of the construction "collage" and my comments on memory... Well, that will take a great deal of time. Some of the issues are discussed in my Vico paper.

Thanks for the opportunity to enjoy the stimulation.
